The Diamond Valley Cinder Cone Trail, sometimes referred to as the Santa Clara Cinder Cone or Santa Clara Volcano, offers an opportunity to explore a volcanic cinder cone. The lava from this cone once flowed through Snow Canyon State Park and all the way to the city of Santa Clara Utah.. The cinder cone is generally referred to as the Diamond Valley Cinder Cone. You can see black basalt rock throughout Snow Canyon, some of which originated from volcanic eruptions that started 3 million years ago.

Cinder Cone, also known as Diamond Cinder Cone, is a circular volcanic summit, high point 4,575 feet, rising about 200 feet above the surrounding flat land in the northeast corner of Snow Canyon State Park, formed entirely of cinders, red or black, with lava mounds to one side.. Diamond Cinder Cone, more commonly referred to simply as Cinder Cone, is one of two cinder cones in Washington County and is part of the much larger Santa Clara Volcano. (The second, smaller cinder cone can be found about a mile to the north.) A cinder cone is a small volcano, usually less than 300m tall.
